Prime Minister and Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has alleged that BNP-Jamaat wants to destroy the country and increase public suffering through terrorism and militancy after boycotting the elections. He urged the countrymen to be careful about this.

The prime minister made this call in the president’s speech at the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the historic March 7 at the Dhaka Awami League office in Tejgaon of the capital on Thursday (March 7) afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina said that out of 300 seats in the 2008 elections, they (BNP-led 20-party alliance) got 30 seats. After that, their situation is worse. Now they are going to destroy the country without elections. People should be aware of that.

The Prime Minister said that those who do not believe in the slogan of Joy Bangla, do not consider the March 7 speech as motivation, that means they do not want independent Bangladesh. They do not want the socio-economic development of the people of Bangladesh. So why should people vote for them?

He said, today we are in the government, the people have voted for us again and again. The democratic process continues in the country. Socio-economic development is taking place because the democratic trend continues in the country. The party that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib built with his own hands, the party that fought for the freedom of the country, conducted the liberation war and brought victory through the war, is Bangladesh Awami League. When this party comes to power, the fate of the people changes and the country improves. No matter what anyone says, everyone has to accept this fact.

Bangladesh got the status of developing country because Awami League is in power. He who suffers, understands what he has to do for people. The father of the nation built the war-torn Bangladesh and left it at the level of a less developed country. But, in the next 29 years, the country did not grow even a step forward. After Awami League came to power, the country has moved forward and InshAllah, one day we will build a prosperous golden Bangladesh i.e. Smart Bangladesh as dreamed by the father of the nation.

The Prime Minister called upon all the parents including the Awami League leaders and workers to give the next generation the right idea about the National Days.

He said, February 21 is our Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day, March 17 is our Father of the Nation’s birthday, March 26 is our Independence Day and December 16 is Victory Day. Let every one of our youth know about these days. Everyone should know this.

The head of government said that lessons should be learned from history. If you don’t take that education, you can’t move forward. We are in power, giving benefits, not only to enjoy those benefits. People must know and understand the history of struggle, the history of self-sacrifice to come so far. It should not only be known by themselves, it should be told to everyone. Then the next generation will have the right knowledge about our history.

He said, this will be my appeal to everyone, people should not forget history. Because, history teaches us to walk in the future. Shows the way to success. Because every movement of the father of the nation including independence was full of success. Those who wanted to destroy 21 years and then another eight years, a total of 29 years, they failed, they could not. They couldn’t erase that history.

The Prime Minister said that all the speeches in the world are either written or given only once. But, the March 7 speech was not written. This speech was about the thoughts of the father of the nation, the exploitation and deprivation of the people, their self-sacrifice and the guidance to prepare the people for the people’s war.

He said, after the assassination of the Father of the Nation on August 15, 1975, the leaders and activists of Awami League and its allied organizations have repeated this speech. Played March 7, played March 26, played August 15. Many have been jailed and even lost their lives for playing this speech. But, did not stop. No matter how hard they tried to ban it, they could not ban it. Ingrained in people’s hearts. I don’t know if anyone can count how many hours this speech has been played, and how many people have heard it. It is an example in the world.

The Prime Minister said that the speech of the Father of the Nation on March 7 is the greatest among all the military-civilian leaders of the world who have given speeches to inspire people in the spirit of freedom. It is through that speech that we got freedom and today we celebrate that day. We have to realize the dream that the father of the nation saw to bring smiles to the faces of the suffering people. What he couldn’t even do, he killed his family and played with people’s destiny. No one else should be able to play with the fate of the people of this country.

Awami League presidium member Dr. Abdur Razzaq MP, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram and Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Joint General Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif MP, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Central Executive Committee Member Advocate Gloria Sarkar Jharna, Dhaka District Awami League President Benjir Ahmed and General Secretary Paniruzzaman Tarun, Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League General Secretary SM Mannan Kochi and Md.
