Body Recovered After Swimmer Vanishes in Auckland’s Lake Wainamu

A 23-year-old man has died after disappearing in Lake Wainamu, near Bethells Beach in Auckland, New Zealand. Authorities recovered his body on Tuesday afternoon, concluding a search that began monday evening after the man fell into an unexpected hole while wading in the lake.

Search and Recovery Operation

Emergency services were first alerted to the situation at approximately 6:10 PM on Monday. The incident occurred while the man was in waist-deep water with three companions. According to a senior official, the man “has taken a few more steps before falling into a hole and has not resurfaced.”

The response was swift and comprehensive, involving police, lifeguards, and the Eagle helicopter.The Police National Dive Squad was deployed to assist in the search,and the body was ultimately recovered just after 5:00 PM on Tuesday.
