Rainbow Six Siege Sees Significant Performance Boost of up to 31% with Intel APO

A Redditor has showcased impressive gains in FPS (frames per second) with Intel Application Optimization (APO) enabled for Rainbow Six Siege. Intel APO, a feature exclusively compatible with the 14th Gen Core CPU series, utilizes insights from Thread Director to optimize workloads based on specific software and core architecture.

Roger Chandler, Intel’s VP and the face of the 14th Gen Core launch, explained in an interview that APO represents the next evolution of this technology. It offers individual application optimizations and adjusts the Thread Director’s policy when a game is added to the APO list, resulting in higher framerates for gamers.

The Reddit user “LightMoisture” performed a complex process to activate APO in Rainbow Six Siege and Metro Exodus, both of which officially support APO. Their efforts yielded positive results, with Rainbow Six Siege experiencing a 31% increase in FPS, elevating it from 659 to 867. Metro Exodus also saw a 24% improvement, increasing FPS from 273 to 339. However, it’s important to note that these results are based on the games’ built-in benchmarks.

It should be noted that not all games have the per-app hybrid architecture optimizations activated. Intel has specifically mentioned Rainbow Six Siege and Metro Exodus as examples, with performance enhancements of 13% and 16% respectively. The list of supported games is expected to expand as Intel confirms positive APO outcomes in each title. Intel is also considering extending APO support beyond gaming software in the future, indicating its versatility beyond just game optimization.

As of now, Intel has not confirmed if APO will be released with support for older generations of LGA1700 CPUs.
