Boursorama finds a definitive agreement to take over ING customers

by time news

The recovery was no doubt, it is now official. Boursorama announced, this Tuesday morning, the signing of a “definitive partnership agreement” with ING, with a view to taking over the customers of the Dutch online bank, which had announced, in December, to stop its activities in France and the elimination of 460 positions. The two actors had entered into exclusive discussions in February.

“Individuals will have the choice to join us or not, and we will respect their wishes. On the other hand, we will do everything to welcome as best as possible, supports Benoît Grisoni, CEO of Boursorama. We want to be the choice of continuity. “There are still 500,000 active customers to recover, after the waves of account closures of those who only had a savings account.

Online bank hopes to attract half of customers

The Société Générale subsidiary hopes to attract at least half of them, to reach its target of 4 million customers, scheduled for the end of 2023, more than a year in advance. To convince them, specific welcome offers of up to 320 euros per person will be deployed, depending on the products subscribed. From April 11, letters will be sent to all customers to offer them a “simplified subscription process”.

From their customer area, they will be able to give their consent to share their personal data in order to “pre-fill the account opening form” with Boursorama and then facilitate the transfer of the balance of their accounts. “They can open a current account with us in just a few clicks,” explains Benoît Grisoni. Our goal is for the transition to be completed in a quarter of an hour. We will have forty people dedicated to supporting ING customers. »

Boursorama will use the banking mobility assistance system so that former ING customers have nothing to do. The claim of the consumer association France Conso Banque – “compensation of 50 to 100 euros per customer to cover the transfer costs that some may encounter”, specifies Michel Guillaud, its president, who brandished the threat of a ” collective action – has not been retained for the moment. On the other hand, transfers of savings products (PEA, securities accounts, etc.) will be carried out free of charge, as France Conso Banque had required.

Compensation for passbook holders facing loss of interest

Holders of regulated savings accounts (Livret A, LDDS) will have compensation to compensate for the loss of interest between the time they open new ones at Boursorama, and the closings at ING. “We will pay up to 10 euros for a booklet A and 5 euros for an LDDS”, boasts Frédéric Niel, director of ING. Boursorama, for its part, promises 30 euros to ING customers for opening a booklet A. “It’s not enough”, judge Michel Guillaud.

As for life insurance contracts, they will be automatically transferred to Boursorama in July 2022, since the two online banks are brokers of the same partner: Generali. The exact date will be communicated in June. Finally, Boursorama does not include mortgages and consumer loans, as expected. “We will continue to manage them until their term with dedicated teams, explains the director of ING. We are not looking for a buyer for this part of the activity. »
