The protagonist of the film is 12-year-old Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair) who lives in Washington and suddenly shows strong signs of imbalance by becoming violent and evil. Her mother, actress Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) puts her through a series of medical examinations before her and later when her problems escalate she calls a psychiatrist. However, when Burke Denning (Jack MacGowran), the person watching over her, is found dead down the steps next to their house and a series of serious incidents occur in the neighborhood where they live, Chris first asks for help from Father Damien Karras (Jason Miller). and then to exorcist Lankester Merrin (Max Von Sydow), a priest with a troubled past. The latter realizes that the girl is possessed by the devil and engages in a terrible battle with the evil spirit. “The Exorcist” is the most famous horror in history and a milestone in the history of cinema. Full of twists and scary scenes, the film was an incredible success with critics and audiences. Costing 11 million dollars, it earned 444 million and soon became a cult. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, he gets only two (Best Non-Original Screenplay and Best Sound). The film has two sequels: “The Exorcist II – The Heretic” (1977) and “The Exorcist III” (1990).
