Russian Attacks Target Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure
Over the past week, Russian forces have launched a sustained campaign targeting Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, with three major attacks reported. Facilities in the Kharkiv region have been specifically targeted, according to officials. “These objects have nothing to do with military purposes,” stated a senior official. “Russian terrorists are committing further acts of terrorism, the purpose of which is to deprive Ukraine of gas, heat and light in winter.”
Sergei Koretsky, Head of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, confirmed that one of the company’s thermal power plants was attacked overnight. He vowed resilience, stating, “The Russians simply cannot understand that we cannot be broken or intimidated in this way. We support each other. We will restore everything. Fighting continues across the Kharkiv region, with the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reporting 25 battles on October 15th. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled 16 Russian attacks near Volchansk in the South Slobozhansky direction, and defended against nine assaults on Kupyansk, Peschany, Petropavlovka, and Novoplatonovka. In total, 182 military clashes were recorded, accompanied by a barrage of missile and air strikes, as well as thousands of attacks utilizing multiple launch rocket systems and kamikaze drones.
The conflict is taking a devastating toll on civilians. Russian forces reportedly struck a five-story building in the Zolochiv community with FPV drones on October 15th, damaging apartments and disrupting energy and gas networks. Fortunately, preliminary reports indicate no casualties.
Tragedy in Kharkiv: Three-Year-Old Boy Dies from Suspected Abuse
In a deeply disturbing development, a 40-year-old woman has been arrested in Kharkiv on suspicion of murdering her three-year-old stepson. Investigators allege the boy endured repeated physical abuse at the hands of his stepmother, beginning in early October 2025. According to the regional prosecutor’s office, the woman repeatedly punched and kicked the child, causing him to lose consciousness. She then allegedly attempted to conceal the abuse by falsely claiming the boy had fallen in the bathroom.
The boy was hospitalized but succumbed to his injuries several days later. Neighbors reported hearing screams and abusive language emanating from the apartment on the day of the tragedy, and the suspect’s mother corroborated this account. Medical professionals determined the boy’s injuries were inconsistent with a fall. The suspect is currently being held in pre-trial detention without bail.
Fires and Explosive Ordnance Threaten Communities
The State Emergency Service reported 34 operational visits across the region on October 15th, responding to 13 fires, four of which were ignited by Russian shelling in the Lozovsky and Lozovsky districts. Overnight, Russian forces attacked Izyum with a UAV, sparking fires in two warehouses. A 41-year-old man was injured in a domestic fire in the village of Lipchanovka, Izyumsky district, caused by an electrical short circuit.
Furthermore, pyrotechnicians neutralized 63 explosive items, highlighting the ongoing danger posed by unexploded ordnance.
Power and Water Disruptions in Lozova and Izyum
The city of Lozova is experiencing power outages due to attacks on energy facilities, with the local utility company operating on alternative power sources. Mayor Sergei Zelensky stated that water supply is expected to be restored soon. Partial power outages have also been reported in Izyum, following the detection of two “Shaheds” approaching the city on the night of October 15th, followed by two explosions.
