Ypané, Paraguay – The Brazilian women’s under-20 national team will head into their final match of the South American U-20 Women’s Championship against Venezuela with the continental title still up for grabs, after a 1-1 draw with Ecuador on Thursday. While the result postponed their celebration, coach Camilla Orlando remains confident in her team’s ability to secure victory, emphasizing the importance of unity and giving their “best” performance in Saturday’s decisive match. This crucial game will determine who lifts the trophy.
The draw against Ecuador, a team Orlando described as the toughest opponent they’ve faced in the tournament so far, shifted the dynamics of the final hexagonal stage. Previously, a win against Ecuador would have guaranteed Brazil the championship. Now, the team must focus on defeating Venezuela while also monitoring the outcome of Ecuador’s remaining match. Despite the altered mathematical equation, Orlando insists the team’s attitude remains unchanged.
“Ecuador is the best team we have faced so far,” Orlando said, according to the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. “We knew it would be a very tricky game, with a very strong midfield. The most important thing was that we managed to fight until the end and had a chance to turn the game around even after conceding the goal.”
