The former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera died this afternoon in a helicopter crash, the Chilean press is reporting.
Piñera was president of Chile twice, between 2010 and 2014 and between 2018 and 2022.
“I lost a liberal friend. And Chile loses a great politician,” said businessman Salim Mattar, shareholder of Localiza.
Miguel Juan Sebastián Piñera Echenique was 74 years old and one of the greatest Chilean businessmen.
He was a shareholder in several companies, the largest of which was LAN, controller of LanChile and later of LATAM in Brazil.
Piñera had a fortune measured by Forbes of US$ 2.7 billion. He leaves his wife, Maria Cecilia, and four children.
