Kottayam: During the 2021 assembly elections, the LDF’s manifesto had promised to raise the price of rubber to Rs 250. Rubber farmers today realize that the promise was a hoax to steal the votes of the rubber farmers. This is the budget that has convinced the farming community that the election manifesto promises are not meant to be implemented but are part of a vote-grabbing scam. The executive meeting of the National Federation of Rubber Producers’ Society has assessed that the government’s stance of increasing the gratuity by just Rs 10 is tantamount to insulting the rubber farmers.

In 2011 property tax was 11 rupees for 25 cent land.In 2022 it has increased to 88 rupees. What has the government done to ensure the farmer’s income with this increase?? In 2011, the price of rubber fell from 245 rupees to 160 rupees in 2024. Knowing that the rubber farming sector is in decline, the central and state governments are not taking relief measures.

The Rubber Production Incentive Scheme launched by former Finance Minister Shri KM Mani during the UDF government in 2015 was a big relief to the rubber farmers who were suffering from not getting fair price. First 500 crore annually and then 600 crore from 2023, a total of 4600 crore was allocated in the budget. But only 1993 crore was given to the farmers. Only 20 crores had to be paid for the year 2021-22.

270 crore in 2015-2016 410 crore in 2016-2017 228 crore in 2017-2018 228 crore in 2018-2019 358 crore in 2019-2020 218 crore in 2020-2021 269 crore in 2021-2022 year only 20 crore 2022-2022 58 crore in 3rd year 2023-2024 161 crore in Out of this, 2600 crore rupees are unpaid to the farmers. With this amount, the promised rubber price of Rs 250 in the manifesto could have been easily implemented. This is a budget that has once again made it clear that there will be no justice from the Left government, which has made anti-farmers its face.

The National Federation of Rubber Producers Societies has decided to start activities to consolidate farmers’ votes in a way that reflects the farmers’ sentiments in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as the central and state governments continue to harm the farmers.

National Federation of Rubber Producers Societies (NFRPS) National President George Joseph Vatapalli presided over the meeting. Tashkent Paikada, Pradeep Kumar P Marthandam, D Sadanandan Chakkuvarakal Kottarakkara, Rajan Phillips Karnataka, Joy Kuryan Kozhikode, P. K Kuriakos Srikandapuram, Georgekutty Mangat Kothamangalam, KPP Nambiar Thalassery, Haridas Mannarkad C. M. Sebastian Chamakalail and Kanjirapalli spoke.
