Brigandine Abyss: New Tactical RPG Announced for Next-Gen Consoles & PC

A sprawling new chapter in the beloved strategy series, Brigandine Abyss, is slated for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and the forthcoming Switch 2. Unveiled during a recent State of Play presentation, the game promises a deep and engaging tactical role-playing experience set in a world on the brink of war.

A Continent Under Threat

The continent of Meltitea faces imminent conquest by a formidable empire, and players will be tasked with rallying forces to resist the encroaching darkness. Brigandine Abyss will allow players to choose from six distinct factions, each led by a unique protagonist, offering diverse strategic approaches to the conflict. Battles will unfold on familiar hexagon-based maps, featuring a blend of knights and mythical monsters.

Extensive Gameplay & New Mission Mode

Beyond the six core storylines, developers are promising over 200 hours of gameplay. This extended experience is largely due to the introduction of a new “Mission Mode,” which will grant players control over 24 unique nations. Each nation will present its own set of challenges and victory conditions, adding significant replayability to the title.

Industry Veterans Lead Development

The development team behind Brigandine Abyss boasts a remarkable pedigree. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, Masayuki Horikawa, previously a key contributor to Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, is leading the project. The game’s evocative soundtrack will be composed by Rei Kondoh, whose credits include Okami, Bayonetta, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Adding further artistic weight, Junko Kawano, renowned for her work on the Suikoden series, is responsible for the character designs.

Brigandine Abyss aims to build upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, released in 2020, and deliver a truly epic strategic experience for fans of the genre. The combination of a compelling narrative, deep tactical gameplay, and the involvement of industry luminaries positions Brigandine Abyss as a title to watch in the coming years.
