Burgdorf Marketing Update: Regional Strategies, New Mobility and Local Events

The intersection of traditional cooperative banking and modern digital outreach took center stage during the latest session of the SMB-Arbeitskreis Marketing in der Hannoverschen Volksbank. The meeting, which served as both a strategic briefing and a farewell to a long-standing leader, highlighted a pivot toward “modern communication with regional identity”—a strategy designed to maintain the institution’s dominance in an increasingly fragmented financial landscape.

For the Hannoverschen Volksbank, the stakes are significant. As one of the region’s largest cooperative financial institutions, the bank manages a balance sheet totaling 9.2 billion euros, supported by a workforce of over 1,000 employees and a client base of 230,000. This scale allows the bank to maintain a robust community presence, evidenced by a recent annual member dividend of 5.5% and a regional funding volume of 2 million euros spanning from the Hildesheimer Börde to Celle.

The session was marked by a transition in leadership. Niall Janotta, the new branch director at Hannoverschen Volksbank, is stepping into the role of co-leader for the marketing working group, succeeding Eckhard Paga. Paga, who has steered the group for 15 years, will officially enter retirement on April 30. Joining Janotta in this leadership capacity is Marco Henze of Sparkasse Hannover, who takes over from Nurgül Hellmer.

Bridging the Generational Gap in Financial Services

Paul Ludyga, who oversees regional brand management for the bank, outlined a marketing framework that rejects the notion of a “digital-only” future. Instead, the bank is pursuing a hybrid model of quality leadership in financial consulting. This approach integrates traditional print media with a comprehensive social media presence, extending into high-engagement platforms like YouTube and Spotify, including targeted advertising.

A critical component of this strategy is the early acquisition of young clients. The bank has deployed “youth ambassadors” within its branches who visit local schools to provide guidance on responsible financial management. By positioning the bank as an educational partner rather than just a service provider, the institution aims to build long-term loyalty before these students enter the professional workforce.

Ludyga also emphasized the importance of measurable regional engagement. The bank’s strategy involves not only sponsoring local events but also implementing rigorous success measurement to ensure that community investments translate into brand equity and customer retention.

The Future of Urban Mobility in Burgdorf

The meeting also served as a forum for infrastructure innovation, with Bahar Dembowski from ÜSTRA presenting the next evolution of public transit in the Hannover region. The focus was on solving the “last mile” problem in rural and pre-urban areas where fixed-line bus and rail services are often inefficient.

The first solution, SPRINTI, is an on-demand service launched in 2021 that allows passengers to book rides via app or phone. Operating in 12 municipalities, SPRINTI utilizes virtual stops to transport users flexibly. In a significant policy shift, the Region Hannover has recently begun covering all costs associated with the service beyond standard fare collection, removing the financial burden of operating these flexible routes from the provider.

Even more ambitious is the ALBUS project, a federally funded research initiative running through 2027. Burgdorf has been selected as a unique testing ground for autonomous small buses in public transit. These electric vehicles navigate a designated test area from the Burgdorf station to the South City, utilizing a sophisticated array of GPS technology, cameras, and sensors.

Strategic planning and regional identity remain central to the Hannoversche Volksbank’s growth model.

While the buses operate autonomously, the test phase maintains a strict safety protocol, requiring a technical supervisor and driving personnel to be present on every trip. Regular passengers must undergo a one-time registration process to participate in the pilot.

Local Commerce and the “Burgdorf wagt Neues” Initiative

Looking toward long-term city development, Lars Runge—Regional Director at Hannoverschen Volksbank and board member of Stadtmarketing Burgdorf—introduced “BurgdorfErleben.” Scheduled for June 6, 2027, as part of the thematic year “Burgdorf wagt Neues,” the event will coincide with the second open-shop Sunday of the year.

The initiative will organize the city’s offerings into nine thematic pillars, including health, fitness, finance, culture, and craftsmanship. The goal is to provide an authentic snapshot of the city’s creativity and economic viability, managed by the newly formed “Arbeiten und Leben in Burgdorf” working group.

This spirit of local entrepreneurship was further highlighted by the introduction of Thomas Lattner, the new owner of CKT Folientechnik GmbH. Lattner took over the company from founders Carsten and Karin Thormann, who established the firm in 1982. As a successor, Lattner has pledged continued support for local clubs and the city’s marketing efforts.

To mark this transition, Lattner is sponsoring a specialized design project for the Burgdorf-Ball on November 14, where the StadtHaus will be outfitted with banners and foils styled after the 1920s, blending local history with modern technical execution.
