Kidnapping and Ransom Demand
On December 11,police in Limpopo initiated a kidnapping and carjacking investigation after a male victim was allegedly abducted in Burgersfort town. The suspects afterward demanded a ransom from the victim’s family, escalating the severity of the crime.

According to a police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, investigators acted quickly, leading to the victim’s rescue following “intensive investigations.” Though, the suspects initially fled the scene in the victim’s car – a white Toyota Corolla with Mpumalanga registration plates.
“Acting on information received, police traced and apprehended the suspects at Extension 05, Burgersfort, in the early hours of Friday, 19 December 2025,” Ledwaba stated. The operation was a collaborative effort involving the Provincial Organised crime Unit, Burgersfort detectives, and the Public Order Policing unit.
Firearm and Ammunition Recovered
During the arrest, officers recovered a firearm and ammunition believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. the south African Police Service (Saps) has opened a separate case docket relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Charges and Court Appearance
The three suspects are currently being detained at the Burgersfort police station and are scheduled to appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 22. They face charges of kidnapping, carjacking, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Provincial Commissioner Praises Police Response
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, commended the officers involved for thier “quick, coordinated, and professional response.” Hadebe reiterated the Saps’ commitment to combating serious and violent crime throughout the province.
Ongoing Investigation
Investigators are continuing their work to recover the stolen Toyota Corolla and identify and apprehend the remaining suspect linked to the kidnapping and carjacking. Ledwaba urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact the investigating officer.
