Burkina: The European Union intends to strengthen its action on security and defense

Ouagadougou, July 28, 2023 (AIB) – The head of the European Union (EU) delegation at the end of his mission, Wolfram Vetter, indicated on Friday in Ouagadougou that his institution intends to strengthen its action on security and defense in Burkina Faso.

“I had rich exchanges with the Prime Minister. I also reassured the Prime Minister that the European Union (EU) remains at the side of the people of Burkina Faso”, indicated the ambassador, head of the delegation of the European Union at the end of the mission, Wolfram Vetter.

The head of the European Union delegation was speaking on leaving the audience with the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, Me Appolinaire Kyelem de Tambela.

For the diplomat, the EU is a traditional partner of Burkina Faso. And as such, she never stopped supporting the country.

“On the contrary, we have also reinforced our support. We also intend to strengthen our work on security and defence,” he insisted.

For him, there is a convergence of views between Burkina Faso and the EU, particularly on issues of justice and human rights.

He also appreciated the openness of the authorities to talk about slightly more delicate issues, in particular questions of human rights, international humanitarian law and also military justice “which is very fruitful”.

“All this reassures me that our common passion on security-defense issues will always be accompanied by dialogue, deep exchanges on issues that concern us on both sides,” the diplomat concluded.
