It was the last major Hollywood film to open in 2020 before theaters had to close due to the coronavirus pandemic. Miserables forever, the third part of the Bad Boys saga, despite low expectations, grossed 426 million dollars worldwide, which translates to almost ten billion crowns, and became the most successful title of 2020.

Actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence got the nod for the sequel thanks to it. The first trailer for the movie called Les Miserables: For Life and Death was released this Tuesday.

The saga began in 1995 with the story of two detectives who are investigating who stole $100 million worth of seized drugs right in front of the police in Miami, USA. The first and second parts of the action comedy were shot by Michael Bay. Both titles, alongside Men in Black and Independence Day, made lead actor Will Smith a Hollywood star.

But then there was a seventeen-year hiatus. The third film in 2020 was directed by the Belgian duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. “They confidently continue the legacy of their predecessor Michael Bay. They made a brisk action film that is a tribute to the carefree Hollywood of that time,” Aktuálně.cz wrote about it.

The reputation of the creators suffered when Warner Bros. Instead, Discovery put it in a vault in 2022 and wrote it off on taxes as a loss. Now, on the other hand, rival Sony Pictures has shown confidence in the filmmakers, when it also entrusted them with the upcoming fourth installment of Miserables, Variety.com writes. The movie Mizerová: Na život a na mort will start screening in Czech cinemas on June 6. And according to the trailer, they will offer “lots of burning cars, car chases, falling helicopters and strip clubs”, the website Deadline.com summarizes the impression of the first video.

In the novel, the detectives must additionally clear the name of their superior, police captain Conrad Howard, played by Joe Pantoliano, who is posthumously accused of corruption at the beginning of the fourth episode.

The Bad Boys franchise has grossed $841 million worldwide to date. With at least a moderate success of the fourth part, it could swing over the magical threshold of a billion dollars. And, among other things, to help the return of Will Smith, whose career was slightly hampered when he punched comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars. Because of this, the actor is not allowed to attend the ceremony for ten years and there has been speculation about his future in Hollywood. With the news, he has a chance to prove that he hasn’t lost his place in the American entertainment industry.
