Dmitry Bykov

The writer talks about what is affecting the legitimacy of the Russian government.

— The first one, of course, is Ukraine. A lot depends on the strength, on the prospects of Ukrainian resistance, both in the mood of Russians and in the fate of the Russian government – Ukraine decides the fate of the whole world, including Russia, says writer and publicist Dmitry Bykov on Khodorkovsky LIVE. — The second force is the notorious “deep people.”

Although I do not believe in the existence of such a substance, I believe that there are a huge number of disenfranchised people in the country who are dissatisfied with it. First of all, convicts, the most powerless people in Russia, who are becoming more and more numerous.

In those moments when mass repressions begin, you not only suppress society, that goes without saying, but you create an army of prisoners. And this army in many respects already decided the fate of Russia in the second half of the 1940s, when their numbers became critical and everyone had military experience.

Then the camp uprisings began, of which the Kingirsky was the most successful and frightened the authorities. But before the “40 days of Kingir,” as Solzhenitsyn called them, there was Vorkuta, Inta, and targeted uprisings in Magadan.

In other words, it has become a serious force: the more you produce prisoners, the more you produce rebels. It sounds terrible, but what can you do if only those who have nothing to lose are capable of rebelling in Russia? People like Navalny, Yashin, Safronov, Kara-Murza – today is their time.

By the way, relocants also have nothing much to lose. And this is also that serious political force that for the time being sits somewhere there, but will join Russia at the decisive moment, as soon as the power weakens, and will immediately begin to speak its word.

But there is a third force that can influence a lot. This is Russian culture, which is silent, silent, and sometimes not. And the significant amount of amazing cultural works that appears abroad today should not be underestimated.

Whether Alla Pugacheva left Russia or stayed, this is the voice to which people are accustomed to responding – they have a natural physiological reaction of joy to this voice. In the same way, it doesn’t matter where B.G. sings. – he will somehow tolerate the situation of St. Petersburg, which he cannot enter, this makes it worse for St. Petersburg, not for him.

And I wouldn’t discount these voices either. The army of Zemfira fans could not disappear into nowhere; they continue to listen to Zemfira. Those voices that reach Russia from abroad remain critically important.

Who was read more in Russia in the 1970s – the Strugatskys published abroad, such as Ugly Swans, or members of the writers’ union, authors of industrial novels? And this was accessible, and now this literature is becoming even more accessible.

…I don’t think that of the three forces mentioned above, any one is the most important. They all work in one ensemble, and attack the legitimacy of this government from three sides.
