Sri Lankan Catholics are ready to forgive offenders, but want to know who to forgive

Christopher Francis – Vatican

Reverend Julian Patrick Pereira announced that Dalatruwa is still fighting for justice for the 2019 Resurrection Sunday bomb attack in Sri Lanka.

Arulpani Patrick Pereira, Secretary of the Legal Committee of the Colombo Archdiocese, said that while no truth has come out even after four years of the bomb attacks, the leadership of the UN is trying to have an international investigation.

It is the duty of the nation to uncover the facts and establish justice in relation to this bombing, said Pereira, pointing out that the facts about the bombing of two Catholic temples, an evangelical Christian church, three luxury hotels and the killing of 261 people are still being covered up.

The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, also questioned the government’s investigations into the bombings and called for an international investigation.

Arulpani Pereira alleged that trying to cover up those related to the attack, changing key investigating officers, and delaying the filing of 23,000 allegations in Perumenikai, was being used.

Arulpani Pereira announced that a case has been registered against 25 members of a terrorist group and it is a kind of cover-up.

Arulpani Pereira added that Catholics are ready to forgive those who have committed crimes, but they want to know who to forgive. He also announced that an application for an international inquiry has been submitted to the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council.
