During this International Women’s Rights Week 2024, the employees of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Cameroon and Socopao have chosen to make an impact with a strong gesture. Direction the central prison of Douala, where they brought precious comfort to incarcerated minor children. A look back at a solidarity action that is as generous as it is inspiring.

Powerful subtitles: Breaking the ice with young prisoners

« You remain members of society and the country needs you“. It was with these comforting words that Ms Adama Diatta, credit manager at AGL, began her moving speech to around fifty minors at New Bell prison. A way to break the ice with these young people on the outs, for a great moment of sharing and conviviality.

On the program for these unusual reunions: question-and-answer games, punctuated by numerous bursts of laughter and warm interactions. The opportunity for AGL and Socopao employees to build relationships with these children battered by life, in a good-natured atmosphere.

Donations to ease prison daily life

But the women of heart from both companies did not come empty-handed. They had in fact collected a large donation of food and hygiene products to ease the harsh daily lives of these minors in detention. A gesture of solidarity unanimously welcomed by the young beneficiaries.

« When we leave prison, we will be exemplary children who will contribute to the construction of Cameroon” promised, moved, Mbomo Augustin, one of the spokespersons of the group. A solemn commitment which delighted the generous donors, determined to offer a second chance to these children.

Promote the reintegration of juvenile delinquents

Because beyond material aid, it is indeed a message of hope that the employees of AGL and Socopao came to deliver on March 5, 2024. That of a society which does not abandon its youth, even when she fell into delinquency.

« Nothing is lost, you will return to society and participate in its construction » hammered Ms. Diatta in a flight that was as lyrical as it was mobilizing. A symbolic outstretched hand, to promote the future socio-professional reintegration of these minors.

The authorities welcome an inspiring initiative

An outpouring of heart which aroused the admiration of the authorities present, like Mr. Joseph Ngangue Ekwe, 3rd deputy mayor of Douala 2nd: “I salute and congratulate these brave women who think of the disadvantaged sections of our society. Their action is an example to follow« .

In fact, the employees of AGL and Socopao succeeded in their challenge: celebrating Women’s Day under the sign of humanist commitment. And prove that female solidarity can have a concrete impact on the most vulnerable groups, in this case children in conflict with the law.

We can bet that this inspiring initiative will spread throughout the Cameroonian entrepreneurial fabric. So that active women are the spearhead of a more inclusive and caring society, well beyond the sole symbol of March 8!
