THE EDUCATIONAL OFFER

Choosing the university path is for life: the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome offers in its three Departmental Faculties of Medicine and Surgery, Engineering and Sciences and Technologies for Sustainable Development and One Health the best paths to keep up with the times and meet the needs of businesses.

The active courses are, for the master degree: Medicine and Surgery, Medicine and Surgery “MedTech”, Medicine and Surgery; Biomedical Engineering, Intelligent Systems Engineering; Food Sciences and Human Nutrition, Food Sciences and Technologies and Supply Chain Management, Chemical Engineering Sustainable Development. For the three-year degrees: Nursing, Physiotherapy, Medical Radiology Techniques for Imaging Radiotherapy; Industrial Engineering, Biomedical Engineering; Food and Nutrition Sciences
Human.

The last born is the “Medtech” course in medicine in English, designed to train the doctor-engineer of the future: a figure able to operate in hospitals as well as in companies, to know the biomedical sector and make the best use of the new technologies present in healthcare field. To underline, only for students enrolled in the master’s degree course in Medicine and Surgery “MedTech”, the possibility of obtaining the three-year degree in Biomedical Engineering with an additional 30 credits. The Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, in partnership with the prestigious Pace University of New York, offers students of the Master’s Degree in Intelligent Systems Engineering the unique opportunity to study the second year of the course on the Manhattan Campus. At Pace University, students can select one of three available Masters of Sciences: Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Information Systems.

ORIENTATION

As for placement, the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome records 100% placement among its graduates within 6 months of obtaining the title in the master’s degree courses in Engineering for Intelligent Systems and in Food Science and Technology and Management of Production chain. Among the most relevant data, according to the AlmaLaurea 2022 report, is the one that places UCBM in the Top 10 of the best Italian universities by employment rate 5 years after graduation, with a percentage of 94.3%, against a national average of 89% .

The ongoing relationship between the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome and companies is a hallmark of its activity. In recent weeks, events such as “Job Day 2023” or the “Romecup” hosted in university spaces with the presence of dozens of national and multinational companies have brought companies into contact with young talents since high school. The Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome is confronted daily with the productive world: to find out what skills they require, what positions they offer, to provide students with opportunities to meet with their representatives, bring out their vocations and allow companies to engage the most promising students. There are many opportunities for orientation for those entering the world of work as well as for those who have yet to choose a university course.

Of great interest in this sense is the first edition of the two Summer school of Medicine and Surgery and STEM, departing on 12 June (open day Saturday 27 May) aimed at high school students. In addition to the path in Medicine, the first in Italy for third and fourth year students, there is the path dedicated to
STEM disciplines (focus on Technologies related to Engineering, Food and Nutrition, Sustainable Development). The UCBM summer school will allow participants to orient themselves with greater awareness in choosing university thanks to the experiential method. The two paths are articulated through a set of frontal teaching, experiential and laboratory activities, simulations or carrying out of admission tests, orientation sessions, moments of leisure to transmit the UCBM value model. Participants will be able, in a single week, to explore some scientific fields through immersive activities; attend university lectures; discover the world of scientific research by experiencing the laboratories of the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome; learn about the life of the students on the university campus; understand through the tests the areas for improvement of the preparation.

For participants in the Summer School of Medicine it will also be possible to simulate the admission tests valid for enrollment in the relative three degree courses available at UCBM. For students in the penultimate year of high school, the STEM Summer School offers the opportunity to sit, in advance, the test valid for early admission to the three first-level degree courses in Industrial Engineering, Food and Nutrition Sciences Human and Biomedical Engineering which open the doors to the five active master’s degrees at UCBM. Students in the third to last year of high school will instead be able to simulate the admission tests by becoming aware of the areas for improvement in their preparation. There will be 100 places available for the Medicine course and 50 for the STEM course. Participants will also be able to choose between a residential formula, including teaching, meals, dinners, accommodation and evening entertainment, and a non-residential formula, including teaching and lunches only. Participants can anticipate the test for the three-year courses for the fourth year.

DIDACTICS

The didactic activity aims at guaranteeing a personal relationship between teacher and student in each phase of learning. Theoretical lessons take place in small classes with the availability of personal tutors. Even in the context of internships, the student has a reference professional. Extra-curricular activities are added to the normal curriculum. Among these, the University offers students workcamps in developing countries every year, with intervention projects corresponding to the areas of competence of their course of study. All didactic activities and support environments for personal study are concentrated on the university campus of Trigoria (libraries, reading rooms, multimedia rooms).

UCBM believes in merit and the recognition of skills. For this reason, year after year it increases its offer of fully or partially covered scholarships (based on merit and income criteria) which reward the most capable students of our degree courses, together with others intended for large families, to the less well-off and to other initiatives such as the loan of honor for merit. And in terms of university accommodation, it is possible to take advantage of the Rui student residences, of controlled rents in the nearby Fonte Laurentina district and of the possibilities offered by the Borgo Primo Centro near the university.

SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Scientific research is at the center of university life: activities concern all sectors of medicine, bioengineering, translational research, chemical engineering for sustainable development, science and technology for food and human nutrition. The collaboration of doctors, biologists, physicists, chemists, engineers, food technologists and nutritionists within a single research infrastructure strongly integrated with the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital Foundation has favored, over time, the development of numerous interdisciplinary research of high international importance. All research activity is strongly adherent to the development of the humanities and the strictest respect for the ethical profiles expressed by the founding values of the University. The Research Doctorate represents the highest level of university education and can be accessed, through a competition based on qualifications and exams, after the Specialist or Master’s Degree and allows the title of Research Doctor to be obtained. Research doctorates are currently active at the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome in: Integrated Biomedical Sciences and Bioethics/Integrated Biomedical Science and Bioethics; Science and Engineering for Humans and the Environment/Science and Engineering for Humans and the Environment; Sustainable Development: Environment, Food and Health/Sustainable Development: Environment, Food and Health; and the National Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence (Health and Life Sciences area).

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

The Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital is the structure adjacent to the university, managed by the foundation of the same name and connected to the university. It has always been an important clinical and research center and a real “teaching hospital” where teachers and students live the experience of treatment and learning together on a daily basis. This dimension allows both young students and postgraduates to grow professionally during their studies.
