Each year in France, approximately 6,000 people are victims of it. Half will be taken care of in time, the others will die before reaching the hospital. What is this phenomenon due to? Can we prevent it?
«An aneurysm is like a hernia on a bicycle inner tube. The wall of an intracranial artery dilates abnormally and this causes the formation of a blood bag which, under the combined effect of blood pressure and the fragility of the arterial wall, can rupture», explains Pr Pierre Amarenco, neurologist at the Bichat hospital (Paris) and President of the association Vaincre l’AVC.
