Holyoke Medical Center to Launch Cancer Support Group in 2026
Offering crucial emotional and practical resources, Holyoke Medical Center will host a new cancer support group beginning in March 2026, designed to serve both individuals navigating a cancer diagnosis and their caregivers. The program aims to foster a sense of community and provide a safe haven for sharing experiences.
Providing a Vital Community Resource
The Holyoke Medical Center Cancer Support Group will convene on the second Thursday of most months throughout 2026, offering a consistent and accessible resource for those impacted by cancer. Meetings will take place in the Fran Como Conference Room at 575 Beech St., Holyoke, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Specific dates include March 12, April 9, May 14, July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, and November 12.
The initiative recognizes the profound emotional and psychological toll cancer takes not only on patients but also on their families and those providing care. According to an oncology social worker, “Support groups are a safe place to talk about emotions and difficult subjects. Our group members have developed a community through shared experiences and feelings, and create a welcoming space for others to feel heard, understood, supported, cared for, and accepted.”
Comprehensive Support Services Offered
Beyond a space for open dialogue, the support group will provide a holistic approach to well-being. Participants can expect a light meal at each meeting, alongside educational sessions, engaging activities, and facilitated discussions covering a wide range of relevant topics. The program emphasizes participant feedback, with a survey administered at each session to continually refine and improve future meetings.
The group’s structure is designed to be responsive to the evolving needs of its members. .
