Eric Cantona Offers Expertise to Manchester United, condemns Owners’ Direction

A former Manchester United icon has reportedly offered his services to the club’s new ownership, while together delivering a scathing critique of their current strategy, accusing them of dismantling the legacy built by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Eric cantona, the celebrated French forward who propelled Manchester United to Premier League dominance in the 1990s,has approached Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazer family with an offer to contribute to the club’s future. However, according to reports in The Telegraph, his proposal was rebuffed. “I am interested in many other things and projects, but I thought that for a period of two or three years I might be able to contribute,” Cantona explained.

The former attacker believes the current ownership has fundamentally undermined the principles that made manchester United a global powerhouse. He argues that the club has squandered the foundation laid by Ferguson, during which United consistently secured trophies and established itself as one of the world’s most recognizable sporting brands.

“Sir Alex created a style of lovely attacking football,” Cantona asserted.”The new owners have not taken this further. Thay have rather destroyed it.” Since Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, the club has cycled through a succession of managers – david Moyes, Louis van Gaal, José Mourinho, Ole gunnar Solskjær, and Erik ten Hag – with limited sustained success. Currently, Ruben Amorim is tasked with steering the club forward.

A Symbolic Removal

Adding to Cantona’s discontent is the recent decision by the Ineos group, led by ratcliffe, to remove Sir Alex Ferguson from his ambassadorial role at united. This move, according to Cantona, demonstrates a lack of respect for the club’s history and the individuals who shaped its identity.

“I remember a dressing room full of players and Sir Alex Ferguson,” Cantona recalled. “he said: ‘All these people that you don’t know help make the club feel like a family.’ It is just as vital to respect these people as you respect the manager.” he continued, stating that Ratcliffe’s arrival has signaled a departure from these values. “But after Ratcliffe came in, the club has done the opposite. He does not want Sir Alex as ambassador anymore. he is more than a legend and I think United need to find their soul back. Now there is a team of directors who want to destroy everything.”

Opposition to Stadium Plans

Cantona’s criticism extends to the proposed plans for a new stadium, a project he vehemently opposes. He believes that replacing Old Trafford would sever a vital link to the club’s heritage.

“They respect no one,” Cantona stated. “They even want to change the stadium.” He drew a parallel to Arsenal’s move from Highbury, arguing that the Gunners lost a crucial part of their identity in the process. “the stadium is iconic for me. I think Arsenal lost their soul when they traded Highbury and I’m sure the fans miss Highbury. It is indeed like entering a house that is very special. Can you imagine Liverpool playing anywhere other than Anfield?”

He is adamant that Manchester United should remain at Old Trafford. “I don’t think United can play in another stadium,” Cantona declared. “It is possible that we are dreamers and they only think about finances and strategy. I hate such things. I hate such decisions.”

Cantona’s outspoken views reflect a growing concern among fans about the direction of the club and the potential loss of its unique identity. His offer of assistance, though rejected, serves as a reminder of the passion and commitment that still exists for Manchester United, and the importance of preserving its storied legacy.
