Cantut and júgut: the Cassà festival focuses on game songs

Maestro Espada, Alidé Sans, Joan Garriga and the singer of La Ludwig Band, Quim Carandellwill be part of the seventh edition of the Càntut, which this year will explore the songs and game chants. The festival dedicated to the music of the oral tradition, which is celebrated on November 17 to 19, will once again combine proposals that look at the musical heritage with new airs, those that invite us to sing it in community and those that work to recover it, this year with an eye on the melodies that are used to play, which will focus on several acts.

At the already announced concerts of Carles Belda and Sanjosex, who meet again to remember the success of the album cantut of 2016; that of Eliseo Parra and that of Alba Careta and Henriowhich will present the new Càntut production dedicated to nursery rhymes, the contest now includes initiatives such as a conversation with the legendary Els Esquirols or the singing meals with Garriga and Carandell.

In total, during the third weekend of November 25 proposals can be seen in Cassà, including concerts, talks, presentations, meals or workshops. Of these, a dozen will be unique activities or designed especially for Càntut and four presentations in the Girona counties. There will also be an official release of the album and a presentation in Catalonia. 60% of the programming is free and for the rest, tickets go on sale this Tuesday at 2pm.

The Càntut will be inaugurated on Friday the 17th in the afternoon, with an open event commemorating the Game Fair that took place in the 80s in Cassà. Next it will be the turn ofone of the few Belda and Sanjosex reunion concerts to commemorate the vinyl edition of the album cantut; the presentation of 20aix of the boys Sol and Serena, who meet again to celebrate the twentieth anniversary and the first Cantut a Taula, with Fetus from Emporda as dinner entertainers.

Cantut, a legacy that is kept alive

Saturday 18 the day will start with The singers’ factorya sound tour devised by Grana and Moscatell with the Amics de la Sardana de Cassà de la Selva and AEiG La Claca, and the talk Game songs. A collection experience in Arbúcieswhich will shed light on the extensive work of recovering old games that was carried out in the 90s in the jungle village.

Later, the festival will host the first performance in Catalonia of Les Pitxorines, a band that renews the traditional Mallorcan song; a vermouth sung with Ivan Caro; the first Singers Dinner with Joan Garriga and a concert by Ernest Sitges, the Shepherd, great connoisseur and lover of traditional mountain songs.

The afternoon will start with two of this edition’s strong dishes: a conversation with Els Esquirolswith several members of the veteran Osonenc group i the farewell to the Catalan stages of Eliseo Parra, one of the great names in the field of popularizing and renewing the traditional music of the peninsula. A concert by Alidé Sans on the right foot and the second dinner Cantut a Taula with Marcel Marimon + Fenya Rai will close the day.

The youngest students of the Pere Mercader Municipal School of Music will open the Sunday 19th program with a concert dedicated to game songs, a type of music that will also be worked on by Miqui Giménez’s family workshop during the morning.

The traditional music of La Garrotxa will focus on Manelic de Pere’s sung vermouth and an act with Liliana Tomàs and Jaume Arnella, before climbing the final stretch of the festival with the official presentation of the disc Udolch by Alba Careta and Henrio, the third record production of Càntut, which recovers the nursery rhymes.

The closing will be in charge of Maestro Espadatwo brothers from Murcia capable of bringing tradition and electronica together without being disconcerting.
