Prime Video has renewed its young adult series Carrie for a second season, following a strong debut on October 7, 2026, that topped streaming charts across more than 100 countries.
The adaptation of Stephen King’s 1974 horror novel was renewed for a second season. Written and executive produced by Mike Flanagan, the eight-episode first season drew substantial viewership during its opening window.
Global Viewership Numbers and Nielsen Ratings for the Debut Season
Streaming data from Luminate showed the series opening with 653K U.S. views for the week of October 2 through October 8, a tally built on just two days of release within the tracking window. By its first full week, that figure climbed to 3.6M U.S. views. Traditional ratings proved equally strong, with Nielsen placing the series at number one on its weekly streaming charts for the week of October 5 to October 11, drawing 1.26B minutes viewed.
Internationally, the show captured the top spot on Prime Video in more than 105 countries. Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, pointed to the breadth of the audience in a statement announcing the pickup.
Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers. It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.

Diverging From the 1974 Novel on Prime Video
The renewal secures the next stage of a three-season arc envisioned by Flanagan. While the first season anchored its narrative in the familiar framework of the book—following an isolated teen played by Summer H. Howell under the control of her mother, Margaret, portrayed by Samantha Sloyan—it altered the climax entirely. Instead of perishing in the gymnasium during the infamous prom sequence, the protagonist escapes town in a car alongside her friend Emaline, left heading toward an unstated destination.
That deviation opens the narrative up to uncharted territory for the upcoming episodes. Flanagan noted that the creative team always intended to look past the original text.
For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.
Mike Flanagan, Writer, Showrunner, and Executive Producer
Stephen King, who serves alongside Flanagan and Trevor Macy as an executive producer, expressed enthusiasm for continuing the project past the boundaries of his debut novel.

I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.

Returning Cast and Production Details for Season Two
Production plans indicate that Howell will reprise her role as the telekinetic protagonist, with Thalia Dudek also expected to return. The broader ensemble for the freshman run featured Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Arthur Conti, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard. Alongside Howell and Sloyan, the first-season ensemble featured Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, and Joel Oulette, while Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco, Crystal Balint, Rahul Kohli, Tim Bagley, and Heather Graham filled recurring roles. Flanagan directed four of the first season’s eight episodes, while Siegel, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata directed the four middle episodes. Trevor Macy also served as an executive producer alongside Flanagan and King for the first season, which was produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
Amazon MGM Studios has not yet announced a premiere date for the second season. The renewal follows the studio’s broader corporate strategy to maximize its library following the 2022 acquisition of MGM, making this horror series the second Prime Video series based on MGM/UA IP to launch.
