The Tuscan director and actor died at the age of 68. He had been ill for some time

Francesco Nuti died this morning in Rome. He was 68 years old and had been ill for many years. To announce his disappearance with a note was his daughter Ginevra together with the family.

Nuti met his first celebrity at the end of the 70s with the cabaret trio dei Giancattivi, together with Alessandro Benvenuti and Athina Cenci. With the trio, then, he made his big screen debut in 1981, with the film “West of Donald Duck” directed by Benvenuti and which re-proposes a large part of the historical repertoire of the group.

Nuti leaves the two traveling companions the following year to start a solo film career, both as a screenwriter and actor, with some films directed by Maurizio Ponzi: Madonna what a silence it is tonight (1982), Me, Clare and the Dark (1983) and I’m happy (1983), which give him a certain notoriety, especially the role of Francesco Piccioli, present in the second of the three films, with which he wins the Donatello’s David and ofl Silver ribbon as best leading actor. The step behind the camera is with “Casablanca, Casablanca†in 1985, a sequel to “Io, Chiara e lo Scuro”, thanks to which he won the award for best new director at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and the second David di Donatello for best actor.

He made other highly successful films: Tuta Blame del Paradiso (1985), Bewitched (1986), Caruso Pascoski (of a Polish father) (1988), Willy Signori and I come from afar (1989) and Women with skirts (1991).
