Yesterday at around 4:30 PM, a KSRTC bus traveling from Bathery to Kozhikode met with an accident on the national highway near Perunthatta Kinfra Park. The bus lost control, skidded off the road, and overturned in the courtyard of a roadside homestay. Shocking CCTV footage of the incident shows hundreds of passengers crawling out from under the overturned bus, while those who were inside the homestay can be seen coming out soon after.
The accident left 49 people injured out of the 59 passengers on board. Locals at the scene rushed to the rescue after hearing the noise, and later, the fire force team from Kalpatta and the police arrived to take the injured to the hospital. Traffic on the national highway was blocked for half an hour due to the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that brake failure was the cause of the accident. The area where the accident occurred is known for its ups and downs, making it a challenging driving environment.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of public transportation on this particular route, and authorities are being urged to take action to prevent similar accidents in the future.
