CDMX Congress approves minute so that minimum wage is higher than inflation

By absolute majority and in its capacity as Permanent Constituent, the Congress of Mexico City approved the minute so that the minimum wage is above inflation.

With 53 votes in favor, zero abstentions and zero against, legislators approved the draft decree that reforms the first paragraph of section VI of section A and adds a third paragraph to section IV of section B of Article 123 of the federal Constitution, regarding salaries.

When declaring the minutes sent by the Congress of the Union approved, the president of the Board of Directors, Martha Ávila, assured that the reform protects the real salary of working people so that it does not lose its purchasing value due to inflation.

Meanwhile, the Morena bench pointed out that the policies of the neoliberal period implemented in the country prioritized the profits of a few over the well-being of the majority while the salaries of the working class remained marginal, frozen in the face of a cost of living that did not stopped increasing.

The paragraph added to the legislation establishes that in no case may salaries be less than the minimum for workers in general in the federal entities.
