celebrated by Macron at the Elysée Corriere.it

Edgar Morin was celebrated in Paris for his one hundred years. On Thursday 8 July, on his 100th birthday, the philosopher and sociologist was celebrated in the late afternoon at the Elysée Palace in the capital. The tribute paid by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, together with the premire dame Brigitte, was attended by his closest friends, including the Italians Antonella and Giannola Nonino (Morin received the Nonino award to a Master of our time 2004 and since then member of the Prize jury).

President Macron greeted Morin, who was present with his wife Sabah, like a century man, an intellectual animated by an exciting thought and an infinite curiosity. For Macron, Morin taught not to separate thought from life and brought France’s humanist message to the world. Authorities and personalities of French culture also took part in the homage for the thinker, including the ministers Jean-Michel Blanquer and Roselyne Bachelot; former ministers Franoise Nyssen, Bernard Cazeneuve and Jack Lang; Alain Touraine, sociologist and Nonino Prize 2016, Franois L’Yvonnet, philosophy professor, writer and editor, starred chef Thierry Marx and Jean Nouvel, architect and designer.

Others followed Macron’s homage by the personalities present including Laure Adler, a student of Morin at the University, now a journalist, writer, editor and radio and television producer, and the musician Jordi Savall i Bernadet, Spanish cellist, conductor and musicologist. At the end a round of applause with a standing ovation of over 15 minutes thanked Edgar Morin. In his French language (a mixture of French, Italian and Spanish) Morin himself then promised Giannola and Antonella Nonino that he would come to the Nonino Prize in Friuli. And from there continue to Venice, Florence, Rome … his dream: A pilgrimage to Italy.
