Two-time Greco-Roman style wrestling champion, three-time world champion, six-time European champion Armen Nazaryan and 2001 world champion in wrestling Vaghinak Galustyan were awarded with the gold medal of KGSMN for their significant contribution and investment in the field of sports.

The RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan handed over the awards to famous sportsmen.

Welcoming the guests and congratulating them on the occasion of the 50th anniversary, Zhanna Andreasyan thanked for the great work and victories in the field of sports. “Thanks to your victories, our society experienced indescribable emotions and enthusiasm. I am sure that you have inspired many of our children to play sports by your example. Of course, next to your sporting achievements and medals, this will have a more symbolic meaning, but once again it is a way of valuing and appreciating your contribution.”

Karen Giloyan, the Deputy Minister of the Armenian Wrestling Federation, also highly appreciated the contribution and contributions of famous athletes in the development of Armenian wrestling.

“Armen Nazaryan is one of the most title-winning and famous sportsmen of modern times. It is true that Artur Aleksanyan has already surpassed Nazaryan in terms of the number of titles won, but the double Olympic championship is still an unbeatable result. Armen Nazaryan’s reverse grip was a well-known fact in the world of wrestling. all competitors tried to defend themselves but in vain. During the World Championship held in Patras, Vaghinak Galustyan ensured confident victories from the first to the last wrestling, which were the most impressive. he was one head above everyone else,” said Karen Giloyan.

Armen Nazaryan, the first Olympic champion of independent Armenia, thanked for the reception and appreciation and emphasized that it was a great pride to wave the flag of Armenia at the Olympic Games, world and European championships and hold the name of the Armenian nation high.

“I haven’t lived in Armenia for many years, and this appreciation is really important for me. This medal will have its place next to my other medals,” said Armen Nazaryan.

The legendary sportsman informed in the meeting with the minister of KGSMS Zhanna Andreasyan that now he manages and coordinates the work of the three age groups of Bulgaria, but he has not severed the connection with the motherland. He often visits Armenia and organizes joint training sessions with Bulgarian wrestling teams in our country. Armen Nazaryan also shared memories of his rich sports career.

Vaghinak Galustyan, the 2001 world champion of wrestling, director of the Yerevan State Sports College of the Olympic shift, also thanked the veteran athletes for drawing attention.

“It’s nice and compelling when athletes with previous sports history are also evaluated. Today’s victories in big sports are not accidental. they are the result of state attention. The number of our medals in the last 3-4 years is the best proof of that. It is also nice to see the influx of children to sports schools, which is now noticeable. The major sports events held in our country in recent years significantly contribute to the increase of interest in sports among children. Once upon a time it was a dream for us to enter the arena under our own walls. unfortunately, we did not have such an opportunity at the time. Now the hosting of international tournaments is becoming a beautiful tradition, which is exciting and pleasant,” emphasized Vaghinak Galustyan.

During the meeting, the policy implemented by the state in the field of sports, new initiatives, as well as the preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were discussed.
