In Britain the Queen or King is the head of state but their powers are merely ceremonial. Politically they can only be neutral. Documents requiring important signatures from the government, including letters, briefings for meetings, etc., are kept in a red leather box and presented to the king. He will sign it.

In 2013, the royal succession rules were amended. Accordingly, men and women were given equal rights of inheritance. That means sons do not get priority over their elder sisters.
Prince Williams-Suk, eldest son of King Charles, has been given the title of Duke of Cornwall. Prince William’s eldest child, Prince George, is second in line to the throne. Eldest daughter Princess Charlotte is third. Williams’ youngest son, Louis, is fourth in line of succession.
