Another failure of the Armenian opposition. The Tavush for the Motherland movement, opposed to the Armenian authorities, announced today a procession from the village of Kirants to Yerevan, led by Archbishop Bagrat Srbazan. The same representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church who recently held meetings in Yerevan, including with Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and Pashinyan’s ardent opponent Robert Kocharyan.

The organizers expected a stir and tens or even hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets. However, the idea turned out to be a complete failure, since in reality there were more police officers on the street than protesters. It is obvious that the opposition’s bet on PR for Archbishop Srbazan did not work.

But it was planned so pompously. They wanted to follow in the footsteps of Nikol Vovaevich, who also began his march in May 2018 and eventually became the Prime Minister of Armenia. But, as they say, history repeating itself turns into a cheap farce.

Judging by the footage, the number of people willing to walk to Yerevan is not so large, although the clergy of the AAC played an active role as a catalyst for this popular indignation. The AAC has openly become an opposition party as opposed to the traditional opposition, which no one supports anymore. No matter how much this opposition would cost the AAC dearly. After all, the flock may scatter, since no one wants to fight anymore, since the Miatsum project is closed. If this goes on, the number of Armenian Catholics from the competing Armenian Catholic Church, which has always been persecuted in Armenia under the influence of the AAC, will soon increase sharply.
