When buying and choosing a vehicle, you must take into account the cost of insuring said model as well as its maintenance, since between some makes and models, there may be a price variation in the premium of up to 77%. There are several factors that influence the final price of a car policy and the model of the vehicle in question is one of the most decisive.

Thus, the Audi A7 Sportback (1,288 euros), the BMW 6 Series (1,284 euros) and the Audi A8 (1,274 euros) are among the three most expensive vehicles to insure this year. However, the MG ZS (304 euros), the Suzuki Vitara (313 euros), the Dacia Duster (327 euros) are among the cheapest cars to insure, as shown by the ranking of the most expensive and cheapest cars in secure in 2023, produced by Rastreator. The list continues with another BMW, the 7 Series (1,212 euros), the Ford Mustang (1,177 euros), repeats BMW with the 2 Series model (1,121 euros), another Audi with the A5 model (1,109 euros), also the Mercedes CLS (1,077 euros); and, finally, the BMW 4 Series (1,057 euros) and 5 Series (1,027 euros).

The most frequent thing is that those people who have this type of vehicle contract a more complete insurance, so the cost will always be higher. In fact, 80% of Spaniards think that high-end cars need more comprehensive insurance to be more protected.

Anthony Rubio, Rastreator’s head of auto insurance, explains that “high-end cars such as models from emblematic brands such as BMW, Mercedes or Audi usually imply higher average premiums since they are more valuable brands and therefore, all their components are more expensive too. Since the technologies they use, as well as the parts or revisions in the workshop, they entail a higher maintenance or repair cost, something that the insurer itself will assume and, therefore, will directly affect the average insurance premium.

On the contrary, there are also a series of brands that are more adapted to the needs of most pockets. The brand of British origin, which is currently a Chinese car manufacturer, heads the list of the cheapest with its MG ZS model (304 euros). It is followed by the Suzuki Vitara (313 euros) and the Dacia Duster (327 euros). Closely on the list is the Hyundai Kona (328 euros), the Dacia Sandero Stepway (332 euros), the Renault Capture (335 euros), the Hyundai Tucson (345 euros), the Kia Sportage (351 euros), the Nissan Qashqai (359 euros) and, finally, the Seat Arona (361 euros).

There are other factors that also affect the premium, such as the history of accidents, since the driver’s driving experience is one of the factors that assumes the most weight in calculating the insurance price. In addition, there are other aspects of the insured’s profile, such as age, which also influences, since experience behind the wheel, their profession or their marital status can vary the price of the insurance.

“It is essential to know the different options on the market, compare and read the fine print carefully to be clear about what coverage we are going to pay and thus prevent the insurance premium from increasing unnecessarily,” explains Rubio. «According to the Rastreator study, 35% of Spaniards say they have switched to insurance with less protection so that the price is lower, but it is essential that cost is not the only factor for choosing one or the other if not that you have to make sure that you have all the necessary coverage for each particular case and thus avoid any unforeseen event by being covered for any incident, “he points out.
