An incident in which a woman employee of an IT company was killed in an accident when an old building was demolished without proper security arrangements in Annasalai, Chennai, has caused great grief.
Pandi Murugesan, daughter of Pandeeswari couple, Padmapriya from Usilambatti area of Madurai district, has been working at United Techno in Chennai, staying at her relative’s house in Pammal, Chennai. Priya, who joined the job on December 20, used to go to work daily from Chennai airport by metro train. So this morning he walked from the Thousand Lamp Metro Station to the company on Creams Road with his colleague Vignesh Raja.
Then when we went through the tunnel on Anna Road, there an ancient building was demolished without proper protection. Then a part of the building fell on the road. The wall fell on Padmapriya and Vignesh Raja, who were passing through the footpath, and Padmapriya died on the spot. Vignesh Raja has been admitted to the Rayapete Government Hospital with serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. It has been revealed that an old building belonging to a private person has been demolished without making any safety arrangements.
75% of the building has been demolished. But the front part of the building which could be along Anna Road has been kept intact. The accident occurred this morning when the front part, which was hanging in the gap, fell due to the demolition of most of the building. Padmapriya died after being caught in the rubble of this building. This caused a traffic jam in the area for about an hour. Padmapriya’s death has shocked everyone there.
People are demanding that the government should take strict action against those involved.
