The 12th memorial tournament of Andranik Margaryan has started in the chess academy of Armenia, within the framework of which the lightning chess tournament has already been held.

After a persistent struggle, Emin Ohanyan, the European under-16 rapid chess champion, was declared the winner of the lightning chess tournament. He scored 8 points out of 9 possible, celebrating 8 wins and suffering one loss. During the tournament, the young chess player was able to defeat grandmasters Shant Sargsyan and Anna Sargsyan, as well as international master Mamikon Gharibyan. Shant Sargsyan, a member of the Armenian national team, took second place, and Mamikon Gharibyan finished in the top three.

Special prizes have also been established. Anahit Muradyan was recognized as the best female chess player, Aren Mnatsakanyan was the best regular participant, Ashot Santorosyan was the best under-12 participant, and Vache Kocharyan was the best under-10 participant.

About 430 boys and girls from all regions of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the Republic of Artsakh, are participating in the 12th Andranik Margaryan Memorial Tournament.

Boys and girls under the age of 18 in the following age groups participate in the tournament.

A-5 tournament – youth up to 8 years old,
A-4 tournament – youth up to 10 years old,
A-3 tournament – youth up to 12 years old,
A-2 tournament – boys and girls up to 14 years old,
A-1 tournament – boys and girls up to 18 years old,
Tournament B – girls up to 12 years old.

It should be noted that the norm of the international grandmaster is defined in the main tournament. 10 strongest chess players will compete here, who will decide the winner in a round-robin competition. Among the 5 representatives of Armenia, only Grandmaster Hovik Hayrapetyan won the start, gaining an advantage over the Iranian International Master Javad Alavi Sayed.

The memorial tournament will be held with different age groups, Swiss competition, 9 rounds. Timing: 90 minutes until the end of the game (with 30 seconds added for each move).

The prize fund of the memorial tournament is AMD 2,500,000. The tournament will end on January 16.
