In this regard, the Tamil Nadu government has issued a press release saying, “This government is fully aware of the role of government officials and teachers who are dedicated in the great task of bringing the government’s programs to the people, and continues to protect their welfare. Despite the severe financial crisis and debt burden left behind by the previous government, this government is working to fulfill its promises on various demands of government officials and teachers.
In this regard, this government has decided to implement this hike from 1.1.2023 after considering the request of the government officials and teachers continuously for the increase in subsidized rate. According to this, the present discount rate of 34 per cent will be increased to 38 per cent from 1.1.2023. Around 16 lakh government officials, teachers, pensioners and family pensioners will benefit from this. Although this hike will cost the government an additional cost of Rs 2359 crore per annum, the government has shouldered this financial burden in the interest of government employees, teachers and pensioners.
Also, a committee will be set up under the leadership of Finance Secretary – Expenditure, Principal Secretary of School Education and Director of Elementary Education to analyze the demands of teachers who are struggling for equal work and equal pay and make appropriate recommendations. The Government has decided to consider the recommendations of this committee and take action on this demand.
Accepting this notification which has been announced as a New Year’s gift to government officials and teachers, I request them to celebrate the beginning of 2023 properly and cooperate with the government in the great task of enriching people’s lives.”
