A heartbreaking event left the province of Sancti Spíritus in mourning a few days ago, when an almost three-year-old child died after consuming heart medications that had not been prescribed for him.

According to reports on social media, the tragedy occurred on March 10, when her five-year-old sister handed her the pills, an innocent gesture that was the result of insufficient adult supervision.

The case became even more painful when it was learned that this little boy from Sancti Spíritus would celebrate a new year of life, just two days after the fatal incident.

“The little sister gave him some heart pills and he couldn’t resist. “The girl is about five years old, and he was going to turn three on March 12,” is read in cyberspace.

Meanwhile, Yanalli González Domínguez, a local citizen, expressed her feelings in the Facebook group Here with the Hero.

“Here with immense pain. This bouquet of flowers (photo) is in the name of the group. “I want to publicly clarify that everything here is the pain of neighbors and acquaintances.”wrote González Domínguez.

It is worth highlighting that these types of deaths occur because the metabolism of children is much faster than that of adults, which results in the distribution of the drug at a greater speed throughout the body.

Other cases of death of children in Cuba

The death of children, sadly, has become a constant on the island, whether due to a blunder or medical negligence, as happened a few months ago in the province of Ciego de Ávila, where a little girl lost her life due to of peritonitis.

“She went into the room three times and they couldn’t save her due to appendicitis. EPD this little angel; my condolences to family. Another child, another family victim of public health, without resources and without a future to improve,” Alexander Jesús Figueredo wrote at the time.
