BEIJING: Chinese authorities have recovered a second black box from a China Eastern Airlines plane that crashed into a mountainside with 132 people on Monday, state media said on Sunday.
“The second black box was recovered from China Eastern Flight MU5735 on March 27,” Xinhua news agency reported. The jet crashed in the mountains with 132 people on board while flying between Kunming and Guangzhou on Monday. The cause of the accident is not yet known.
The aircraft was fitted with two flight recorders – the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), which monitors flight data such as flight, speed, altitude and title. Another is the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), which records conversations between pilots. It was discovered on Wednesday and is already being analyzed in Beijing.

The news agency AFP reported that everyone on the previous flight to China had died and that all their identities had been confirmed by DNA testing.
What is a black box?
A ‘black box’ or flight data recorder is an electronic device that records some important information, including pilots’ conversations, air pressure, and altitude in the cockpit of an aircraft. This device is fitted on the aircraft to assist in the investigation of plane crashes and incidents.
It is noteworthy that the black box of this modern device is not black. The black box is painted bright orange. This allows investigators to easily locate during an accident. These devices are designed to protect the important information of the last minutes before the accident and to withstand any kind of accident damage. There are two types of flight recorder devices – flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR). The FDR records a history of dozens of parameters collected several times per second during flight, while CVR records sounds within the cockpit, including conversations between pilots.
