The PRC resolutely rejects the US’s baseless accusations against its citizens, considering the actions of the American administration irresponsible. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Pengyu, commenting at the request of a TASS correspondent on the US filing charges of cybercrimes against seven Chinese citizens and the imposition of sanctions by Washington, Day.Az reports.
“China, in accordance with the law, is categorically opposed and is taking measures to combat all forms of cyber attacks,” a representative of the Chinese diplomatic mission emphasized. According to him, the United States “without reliable evidence came to an inappropriate conclusion, making baseless accusations” and introducing “unilaterally illegal sanctions.”
The PRC considers this behavior of the Washington administration “extremely irresponsible,” the embassy emphasized. “China resolutely rejects this and firmly intends to defend its legitimate rights and interests,” said a representative of the Chinese diplomatic mission.
US threat to global critical infrastructure
Li Pengyu also noted that most cyber attacks are carried out from the United States, thereby threatening the world’s critical infrastructure.
“The United States itself is the source and main perpetrator of cyber attacks. The Cyber Command of the US Armed Forces has openly stated that the critical infrastructure of other countries is a legitimate target for US cyber attacks, which exposes the world’s critical infrastructure to enormous risks,” said a representative of the Chinese diplomatic mission
According to him, since 2023, China has been publishing “reports indicating that the US government has long been conducting cyber attacks against the critical infrastructure” of the country. “We call on the United States to stop cyber espionage and cyber attacks around the world, and to stop slandering other countries under the pretext [обеспечения] cybersecurity,” the embassy representative emphasized.
He added that cyber security poses a “global challenge” and China has been “severely affected by cyber attacks.” “We confidently fight and put an end to all types of malicious cyber activity in accordance with the law, and advocate for all countries to respond jointly through dialogue and cooperation,” the embassy spokesman said. He said China “hopes that all parties involved will take a responsible approach and work together to protect peace and security in cyberspace.”
On Monday, the United States, in coordination with British authorities, added to the sanctions list the scientific and technology company Wuhan Xiaozhuizhi, as well as Chinese citizens Zhao Guangzong and Ni Gaobin, allegedly associated with the hacker group APT31. As follows from a statement released by the State Department press service, US authorities have charged these individuals, as well as five other Chinese citizens, with conspiracy to commit cybercrimes. According to the American side, restrictive measures were taken due to the involvement of these individuals and the company in “malicious cyber activity” that allegedly poses a threat to the security of the United States.
