The conference elected the Central Committee to lead the party for the next five years. A 376-member Central Committee was elected, including 205 full-time members and 171 alternate members. A 133-member Central Commission for Discipline was also elected. General Secretary and Chinese President Xi Jinping is in the new Central Committee. The Politburo and General Secretary will be elected in the first plenary meeting of the Central Committee on Sunday. International media report that Xi Jinping will be appointed as the General Secretary for the third time.
Four of the seven members of the Politburo Standing Committee, including Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Deputy Prime Minister Han Seng, resigned from the Central Committee. Li Keqiang had earlier announced that he would be stepping down from his duties at this conference due to health problems.
The meeting approved the work report presented by the General Secretary, the work report of the Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection and the amendments to the Party Constitution. Various resolutions related to China’s development were also adopted.
