BYD will acquire its own fleet of car export ships, which will include eight huge vessels with a total capacity of at least 56 thousand cars.

In January of this year, the Chinese car giant launched its first ship – BYD Explorer No.1 with a carrying capacity of seven thousand cars. However, this proved to be insufficient, and seven more such water carriers have been ordered, which will allow BYD not to depend on third-party vessels. They will be commissioned in the next two years.

Chinese shipyards will build the ships for BYD. Explorer No.1 was built by CIMC Raffles, while the other two are now being built by CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering in Guangzhou. Each of the ships will be able to load seven thousand cars. In the next two years, they will be joined by five more ships, which may turn out to be even more spacious.

Thus, the largest car manufacturer in China will partially solve the problem of the shortage of car transporters for export. China, which ships more cars overseas than any other country, is experiencing an acute shortage of water transport. As of November 2023, Chinese shipping companies owned only 40 car carriers with a total capacity of about 110 thousand cars.
