Cholera outbreak- 3 days holiday for schools and colleges in Karaikal

Karaikal district in the Union Territory of Puducherry has seen an increase in the number of people suffering from vomiting and diarrhea for the past few weeks.

While the affected patients are being treated in the district government general hospital and primary health centers, some of them have been confirmed to be infected with cholera. In response to this, a public health emergency has been declared in the entire Karaikal district.

According to the health department of the state, 2 people who were suffering from cholera in Karaikal and were being treated have died due to co-morbidities.

The Puducherry Health Department said that 1,584 people have been affected by vomiting and diarrhea in Karaikal so far, and people should not panic as cholera prevention measures have been taken.

In response to the spread of cholera, District Collector Muhammad Mansoor has ordered a holiday for schools and colleges in Karaikal from tomorrow for 3 days. Steps have been taken to clean drinking water tanks in schools and colleges during these 3 days of vacation.
