Citizens Memorial Hospital to Unveil $100 Million Expansion, Modernizing Healthcare in Bolivar, Missouri
A significant investment in rural healthcare is nearing completion as Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) prepares to open its new hospital tower in Bolivar, Missouri. The project, a $100 million expansion and renovation, aims to enhance patient care and modernize facilities for the growing community.
Grand Opening and Public Tours Scheduled
Citizens Memorial Hospital will host a grand opening and public tours on February 28th, offering residents a first look at the state-of-the-art facility. Open-house hours, refreshments, and guided tours will precede the planned activation of new patient care areas in April.
A Comprehensive Modernization Effort
The ambitious project, which broke ground in September 2023, encompasses a three-story, 117,000-square-foot addition and roughly 25,000 square feet of remodel work within the existing hospital. According to a statement from CMH, the expansion reflects the organization’s commitment to meeting the evolving healthcare needs of the region.
“It’s not often that a community the size of Bolivar has the opportunity to celebrate the opening of a new hospital, and we’re excited to share this milestone,” said Michael Calhoun, CEO and executive director of CMH and Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation.
Enhanced Patient Care Spaces
The new tower will house several key patient care areas, including an expanded emergency department and new medical/surgical, intensive care, and birthing units. A key feature of the new units will be the inclusion of private rooms, designed to enhance patient comfort and privacy. Beyond clinical spaces, the expansion will also introduce a new hospital main entrance, kitchen, cafeteria, dining area, coffee shop, and an expanded gift shop.
Ongoing Renovations and Future Capacity
While the new tower is set to welcome patients in April, renovations within the existing hospital are expected to continue through the end of 2026. These renovations will include an expansion of the surgical department, general upgrades, and the addition of two new cardiac cath lab procedure rooms. Calhoun emphasized the project’s long-term vision, stating, “We’ve grown a lot over the years at CMH, and this new hospital expansion reflects the services we provide to our community today.”
The $100 million project is being led by construction manager JE Dunn and architect HMN Architects, with CMH providing regular updates on the construction progress. This investment signals a strong commitment to the future of healthcare in Bolivar, Missouri, ensuring residents have access to modern, comprehensive medical services for years to come.
