The release of James Gunn’s “Clayface” has been shifted, pushing back the arrival of another piece in the director’s evolving DC universe. Originally slated for a September 2026 debut, the film—starring Tom Rhys Harries—will now arrive in October.

A New Date for the Clay-Based Anti-Hero

James Gunn’s ambitious DC universe continues to take shape, but not without a few adjustments to the schedule.

  • James Gunn’s DC universe began with “Superman” last year.
  • “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is still on track for a June 25, 2026 release.
  • “Clayface” will now premiere in the U.S. on October 23, 2026, and in this country on October 22, 2026.
  • Tom Rhys Harries stars as the shape-shifting villain.

Following the launch of his new DC universe with “Superman” in 2023, director James Gunn has been meticulously planning the future of the comic book world on the big screen. “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is currently slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2026, but fans won’t have to wait too much longer for another installment. Originally scheduled for a September 10, 2026 release (September 11 in the U.S.), the horror drama “Clayface” has had its release date adjusted.

The new U.S. release date is October 23, 2026, meaning audiences in this country can expect to see “Clayface” in cinemas on October 22, 2026 – a fitting arrival ahead of Halloween. The film, directed by James Watkins of “Speak No Evil” fame, centers on the iconic Batman villain, a creature composed of magical clay.

The Many Forms of Clayface

Clayface boasts a rich history within DC Comics, first appearing in 1940. The character initially debuted as Basil Carlo, a horror film actor who used clay masks to commit murders. Over time, Clayface evolved into the more recognizable form: a being entirely made of clay, capable of shapeshifting and possessing immense strength and near-indestructibility. This malleable form also allows Clayface to transform parts of its body into various weapons.

Tom Rhys Harries (“Kandahar”) takes on the role of the mutant anti-hero. Joining him is Naomi Ackie (“Blink Twice”) as Dr. Caitlyn Bates, a scientist dedicated to finding a cure for Clayface. Max Minghella (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) also stars as a Gotham City police officer who shares a relationship with Dr. Bates.

A trailer is already available for the upcoming DC adventure, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.”
