The Cleveland Browns have made a bold fashion statement by unveiling an alternate helmet for the upcoming season. In a move that pays homage to the team’s history, the Browns will be wearing white helmets with orange and brown stripes down the middle for select games.
The first game in which the Browns will sport these alternate helmets will be their Week Two Monday Night Football matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fans can expect to see the team donning these unique helmets again in Week Six against the San Francisco 49ers, as well as in Week 17 against the New York Jets.
This marks the first time since 1951 that the Browns will be seen wearing white helmets. In their inaugural years, the team sported white helmets for six seasons before transitioning to their more familiar look in 1952. Now, after almost seven decades, the white helmets will make a triumphant return.
Executive vice president JW Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s decision, stating, “We’re super fired up and really excited to have this opportunity to wear an alternate helmet.” Johnson explained that the choice to go with the white helmets holds significant meaning both in honoring the team’s past and listening to the desires of their fans.
He further added, “A lot of our greatest players wore white helmets. We also heard from our fans that it was the direction they wanted. We always want to continue having great fan interaction and deliver for them as much as we possibly can.”
It is worth noting that the NFL resumed allowing teams to wear alternate helmets starting last season. Teams are now permitted to showcase these alternate headgears in up to three games during the regular season. This change has allowed teams to get creative and pay tribute to their history while adding a fresh look to their uniforms.
