Amid the temperature records registered in the northern hemisphere of the planet, something even darker is saying that the planet is not “very well in health”. We are talking about an alert from the Weather Clock, a huge and sinister 24 meter high clock, which is located in Union Square, in New York, United States.

He makes a kind of countdown to the world, which urgently needs to solve the serious problems with climate change. Before everything gets even more terrible for humanity – and of course, for all other life forms that exist on our planet.

It is very hot

Earth is about 1.1 degrees Celsius hotter today than it was before the Industrial Revolution. This is thanks to carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels.

As a result, more intense heat waves, wildfires, storms and rising sea levels. To have an even bigger idea about all this “warmth”, NASA revealed that June 2023 was the hottest June ever recorded in historical measurements.

In China, the hottest day in the country’s history was recorded. On July 16th, the temperature there reached an absurd 52.2 degrees Celsius!

Weather coming to the end of time

The Climate Clock shows how much time remains before continued CO2 emissions reach at least 1.5 degrees of global warming. This is a key threshold for global climate targets under the Paris Agreement.

The time left on the clock is dropping to less than six years. It reflects data from the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC), located in Berlin, Germany. These less than six years are, in particular, the estimated time for humanity to completely change its posture in relation to carbon dioxide emissions.
