Names of gods from other religions, the Citizenship Amendment Act, the hijab controversy in Karnataka, a chart with references to Muslims being treated as second-class citizens – are among at least four handwritten entries in Tamil recovered by Tamil Nadu police from the home of Jamesha Mubin, who died in the Coimbatore car cylinder blast last week.

Engineering graduate Jamesha Mubeen (29) died when a car loaded with 2 gas cylinders exploded near a temple in Coimbatore. Police have arrested 6 people including his alleged accomplices Mohammad Azharuddin and K Apsar Khan in this case. The Central government, on the recommendation of the state government, handed over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday. The NIA registered the FIR on Friday.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, senior investigating officers of the Tamil Nadu Police, who are in the process of officially handing over the investigation of the case to the NIA, said that their investigations have revealed some important aspects of the case.

A top official source privy to the evidence recovered during the investigation said part of the notebooks, including books and texts, recovered from Jamesha Mubeen’s house in Ukkadam, Coimbatore were diaries.

“Jamesha Mubeen’s diary entries often reveal his views on other religions, particularly Hinduism and Christianity. He has quoted the names of the gods of those religions. And he depicted them in a handwritten chart diagram with arrows connecting each other. CAA hijab controversy, restrictions on food, killings due to beef are cited as problems faced by Indian Muslims. Muslims are becoming second class citizens. He was also baffled as to how to deal with these problems,” sources said. They also said that all the religious literature is in Tamil.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, Coimbatore Police Commissioner V Balakrishnan said that Mubeen’s accomplices Azharuddin and Afsar, who were among the six arrested in the case, admitted during interrogation that they had often expressed their views on the oppression faced by Muslims.

“Most of the books and notebooks found in his Ukkadam house are about bomb-making, jihad and his outspoken views on other religions. “According to the two accused we interrogated, Jamesha Mubeen would express his views on Indian Muslims and how they are being oppressed,” Balakrishnan said. Their investigation so far has revealed that Mubeen is a self-proclaimed terrorist. They are mostly obtained from books and internet. Also, he does not have any sophisticated bomb making capability.” He said that.

Talking about the blasts allegedly involving Sadiq Mubeen, Balakrishnan said, “On Saturday (October 22) around 11.25 pm, after loading gas cylinders and other items in his car, Mubeen went to a nearby road and parked there. It was hours before he began his final journey before the bombing. We believe he was on his way to a destination. What that target is is not yet known. He blew himself up when he found a police checkpost outside the temple. Azharuddin and Afsar did not divulge any details about Mubeen’s destination.” He said that.

The main evidence seized by the police from Mubeen’s house was a board with the ISIS symbol painted on it with a green frame. “So far, there is no evidence that he has received help from outside. “But our interrogation of others revealed that Mubeen had a lot of respect for the suicide bomber Zahran Hashim (the main suicide bomber behind the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka) who killed more than 200 people,” said an investigating officer.

Jamesha Mubeen had married the hearing and speech-impaired woman out of a sense of sacrifice stemming from her religious faith, the official said, adding that he had sent his wife and two children to her home four days before the blast. A few hours before the blast, he loaded his new Maruti 800 car with supplies. He parked it near Afsar’s residence. He then returned home around 1 am and went back to change,” the officer said.
