by time news

The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, National Civil Defense, Inmet, INPE and Cemaden issued a warning about the forecast of intense rain in part of the country.

Special attention, with a red alert from Inmet, is for the Southeast, where São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo could suffer more serious consequences due to possible storms.

The alert begins this Friday (22) and is valid until this Sunday (24).

National Institute for Space Research (INPE) explained, in a press conference held this Thursday (21), that the significant accumulations of precipitation are due to the action of a cold front that is moving and arrives in São Paulo this Friday (22 ).

With the movement of this cold front, mainly between the 22nd and 23rd, there is a probability of rainfall of more than 100 mm in 24 hours and more than 200 mm in the next few days.

Severe conditions have already been recorded in the state of Rio Grande do Sul caused by the approach of a frontal system, with winds exceeding 140 km/h.

Inmet also explains that, after the passage of this cold front, there will be wind carrying moisture from the sea towards RJ, causing instability.

“In the states of São Paulo and Paraná, this morning there should already be occurrences of electrical discharges, hail, gusts of wind”, stated Márcia Seabra, General Coordinator of Applied Meteorology, development and Research at INMET.

INMET points to the forecast of very high rainfall accumulations from the north coast of São Paulo, the entire state of RJ, Zona da Mata of MG, south of ES, from Friday (22).

There is also a forecast of a hangover for some areas and waves of up to 2.5 meters on the coast of RJ, according to warnings from the Navy.

Impacts

According to the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (CEMADEN), landslides and other impacts may occur as a result of the rain. “The reference volume is 100 mm and has the potential to cause disasters,” the monitoring center said.

There are forecasts of more than 200 millimeters especially for Saturday (23). The most serious situation is that of Rio de Janeiro with rain forecast from the afternoon and evening of Friday (22). The regions of Costa Verde, Metropolitan Region of Rio and especially Serrana Region are more prone to landslides.

In São Paulo, hydrological events are faster, with streams overflowing. Landslides are more occasional, but with the possibility of closing the Tamoios Highway and the Oswaldo Cruz Highway.
