Alappuzha: Congress and Muslim League have hardened their stance against Sriram Venkitaraman IAS. Both the parties announced that they are boycotting the official program presided over by Sriram Venkataraman as Alappuzha District Collector.
The Congress and the Muslim League are boycotting the Nehru Trophy Vallamkali Committee meeting to be held tomorrow. The boycott is part of the protest against the appointment of Sriram, who killed journalist KM Basheer as collector.
Sriram Venkataraman as District Collector is the Chairman of the Nehru Trophy Vallamkali Committee. Alappuzha District Collector convenes a meeting comprising representatives of various political parties for the successful conduct of Vallamkali. In these meetings, politics has been put aside and everyone cooperates together. This is the first time that political parties have to stay away from the meeting due to their opposition to the Collector.

Alappuzha: Even after days have passed since Sriram Venkitaraman took charge as District Collector of Alappuzha, the comment box on the official Facebook page has not been activated. Since the release of the government order appointing Sriram as Collector, hundreds of comments have been posted on Alappuzha District Collector’s official Facebook page with severe criticism. At this time Sriram’s wife Dr. Renuraj was the collector. As the comments crossed the limit, the collector locked the comment box on Facebook.
Even when it was opened twice later, it was flooded with critical comments. The situation was similar when the profile picture on Facebook was finally opened on Wednesday afternoon to be changed to Sri Ram’s. Soon all comments were removed and locked. Meanwhile, a march will be held on Saturday, July 30, to the Thiruvananthapuram Secretariat and other District Collectorates under the leadership of the Kerala Muslim Jamaat to protest against the appointment of Sriram Venkataraman, who is on trial in the case of the killing of journalist KM Bashir, as Alappuzha District Collector.
SYS and SSF workers will also join the march at 11 am. Earlier, the Muslim Jamaat had announced that it would hold a strong protest against the appointment of Sriram, the accused in the homicide case, as a collector with the authority of the judicial magistrate.
The Collectorate March is being organized as the first phase of this. Kerala Muslim Jamaat State Secretary M Saifuddin Haji will address the march in Thiruvananthapuram. The Sunni organizations started protesting as they suspected that Shri Ram’s appointment as a collector was part of subverting the case.
The Kerala society cannot accept that the Supreme Court gave the accused positions of authority when the accused who committed the crime defied the law and destroyed the evidence. Kerala Muslim Jamaat leader S Sharafuddin said in a press release that the government’s decision should be reconsidered urgently.
