The highly anticipated Las Vegas Grand Prix faced controversy over the weekend as fans breached security measures to gain a view of the track. The race, which took place on the iconic Strip, had implemented view-blocking filters on pedestrian bridges to prevent unauthorized access to the track area. However, some fans, clad in team merchandise and believed to be without tickets, successfully tore down the screens to gain a view of the track.
Efforts to replace the damaged screens were unsuccessful, and the area of concern was located opposite the Planet Hollywood casino and hotel, close to a main overtaking point on the track layout. The controversy comes after a series of setbacks during the opening day of track action, including a delay caused by a concrete failure that damaged a Ferrari during practice. As a result of the incident, fans who only attended the Thursday action were offered compensation in the form of $200 vouchers to spend in the event’s merchandise store. Additionally, a Nevada law firm has launched legal action against the Las Vegas GP organization to secure refunds for impacted spectators.
The F1 organization, which owns the Las Vegas GP event promoter, has been approached for comment regarding the security breaches. This incident has once again highlighted the challenges of managing large-scale international events and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of spectators.
