According to examples, the pathogens were mainly rhinoviruses, the common cold pathogens. They were detected in about every third sample (32 percent). On the other hand, Corona accounted for about every tenth sample with an 11 percent share. Smaller proportions of parainfluenza viruses (5 percent), adenoviruses (5 percent) and human seasonal coronaviruses (2 percent) were also found.
KP.3.1.1 appears to be replaced by a new XEV variant
According to the RKI reports, new coronary diseases are currently being pushed out more by the XEC variant. As the X in the abbreviation shows, it is a cross of two sublines of the earlier JN.1 version. XEC was first detected in Germany in June and, according to data collected so far in Europe, it seems to have an advantage over KP.3.1.1, the dominant variant until recently. Recently, XEC was detected in 34 percent of all samples examined, KP.3.1.1. came to 31 percent.
According to the RKI, the public health risk associated with these viral variants under observation is still classified as low. “With the increased spread of the listed SARS-CoV-2 lines, no increase in the severity of the disease is given,” according to the weekly report.
