A 700-year-old coronation chair is reportedly being decorated for the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla.

Coronation ceremony

Following the death of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II last year, her son Charles III took over as King.

Following this, King Charles III and his wife, Queen Consort Camilla, will both be officially crowned King and Queen on May 6.

Ahead of King Charles’ coronation, London’s Westminster Abbey reported that the historic coronation chair, which has been crowned for about 700 years, is being decorated.

The centerpiece of the coronation ceremony is the crowning of King Charles while seated on an oak chair.

Following in the footsteps of some famous predecessors such as King Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and his own mother Elizabeth II, King Charles III will also sit in this throne chair for his coronation.

The Coronation Chair was created at the behest of King Edward I to include the Stone of Scone or Stone of Destiny, which had been used for the coronation of Scottish kings for centuries.

For this purpose in 1296 King Edward brought the stone from Scotland.
